Fighting the pike

How to take a pike correctly Only two species of fish with vyvazhivanii cause me a special thrill. This is carp and pike. I dedicate this post to pike fishing. About how to behave when the pike is on the hook. How to deal with candles, how to fight, how to take it out of the water, finally. This is really an interesting and important topic. It’s one thing to make the fish bite. And the other is to be able to get the trophy.

I started by mentioning the carp and pike, as iconic fighters for me. Yes, it was these fish that managed the most memorable departures from me :). With torn fishing lines, unbent hooks, even broken rods. Although, I’m sure that this picture is not for me alone … It is carp and pike in terms of struggle – the very ones. The carp is strong, sharp and does not tire for a long time. But if the carp tears the tackle – it usually makes one of the first three jerks. The pike is even sharper. Maybe a little weaker carp. But if in the carp vengeance the most crucial first moments, then with the pike – the last. Pike can go quite easily. And having felt the approach of the shore or boat – just get mad and tear, break, bend everything and everything. This is a kind of “cunning” pike, which must always be remembered.

So, the pike bite was held. The very first thing is a reliable undercut. The mouth of the pike is hard and bony. To ensure that the hook is securely seated, the undercut should be fairly stiff and sweeping. If in the first sweep, when you are bitten, you are not very sure – choose slack, pull the line and do a second sweep. Not sharp, but strong.

In most cases, you can immediately determine the approximate size of the production. This is the reason for the further behavior of the angler when he dies. However, even in my practice there were several situations when it seemed that the pike was pulling no more than a couple of kilograms, and just “the crocodile” was declared near the shore. And in two cases out of four – the “crocodile” was leaving … I believe that at the end of the vyzavizhivaniya you need to be ready for anything. Slightly loosen the friction, prepare to give the pike a little fishing line in case of a jerk.

If the pike is small, I would not recommend it to mess with. Forced bravado – this is what you need. So we do not give the pike to come round, make an extra candle, get a tackle in snags or seaweed.

If the pike is large, you should also not give the fish a special freedom to maneuver. If it turns out, we must try to raise the toothed surface as early as possible. This will not only give an opportunity to assess who we are dealing with, but also a breath of air will play for us. In addition, the frightened fish will make a strong breakthrough. And let him be on a long line, than at the very feet … So a strong pull is easier to extinguish, not allowing the pike to damage the tackle.

Many pikes leave, making a candle. A candle is a pike maneuver when it completely flies out of the water, head up. Fish in flight shakes its muzzle and can get rid of hooks. It should immediately be noted that the pike makes a candle only in one case – the hooks hit it in the gills (that is, quite deep). It’s another matter whether they reliably settled there. If the hook hooked the pike past the edge of the mouth – there will be no candles. The approaching candle can be predicted by a sharp rise of the fish upwards (the angle of the line to the water is suddenly sharpened).

Pike gives a candle Pike gives a candle To neutralize a pike candle, there are two diametrically opposite approaches, depending on the tackle. If the spinning is light, the line is thin, the bait is light, and the pike is solid, the only reasonable solution is to give the slack (lower the rod and drop a couple of turns of the cord from the spool). Then there is a chance that the bait will be too light and the inertia of its mass is not enough to make the pike get rid of the hooks. If the rig is powerful, reliable, and the bait is heavy – you should keep the line in constant tension, lower the top of the rod, as low as possible to the water and try not to let the pike jump. If, however, she succeeds, it is necessary, as soon as possible and sharper to drive it and hope that the hooks sit tight.

And now, the pike is very close. We keep in mind the possibility of the last “deadly” leap and prepare to take the fish. Well if there is a scoop-net or gaff. If not, you need to bring the pike as close and resolute as possible to take it by hand on the gill area, or behind the eyes. Pikes practice sharp throws, even when they are already caught. One sharp jerk – and the pike breaks from his hands. The second – and she escapes. So, we must look at both, keep the fish stronger and immediately take it away from the water. 😉
